New Student Guide and Acknowledgement .
« on: April 25, 2013, 02:26:53 »
New: All new students must post/acknowledge by putting a reply at bottom of this post.

>>> New users: please use your ingame character name as your forum account name <<<

Hopefully you know the basics from the "tour".
  • Academy Map, not always current.
  • Academy Work List (things that need doing around the Village.)
  • Food in the large barrel in front of the Chef's Guild.
  • Water is in the Fountain at the plaza (North of the token.) where you enter the deed. Second water source on the south side of the Chef's Guild.
  • The Mine is North East of the token, 2 roads will take you there. Iron is inside the mine, left then up a ramp. We have forges in front of differnt quality iron. Iron QL is marked on a dog statue next to Iron. Please do not mine iron above your skill.  Don't mine the floor, if you need rock shards mining the ceiling works great. The mine is in a very ugly state. please don't mine west or south. The mine is not a safe area, let us know in Alliance if you need mobs taken care of.
  • Student Farms are to the North of the Outside Work station. You can tend the crops there, and groom the critters. Once you can drive a cart you can use the bison or horses also. If you pick crops be sure they are ripe. Replant one and you can keep the others or drop em off in the Bsbs by outside work station.
  • Tar (stand in the center of the 4 tiles) is to the South west of token. Take a right before Equine Vista house then another right after S - AR - South gatehouse.
  • We recomend the first things you do are  make a few tools. File, Hammer, Small Anvil, mallet(wood), 6 small nails, Large Padlock (there should be a  Large Anvil at the outside workstation) First items to make are small bucket for water, small barrel, Large Cart(use the lock to lock it and put the key in your Bank account).
  • Student Dorm; has beds for sleeping. If you log out by sleeping you will receive up to 5 hours of Sleep Bonus.
  • Outside workstation(OWS), has 3 forges, 1 oven a loom, some BSBs, a FSB, coffins,  Large chests and a few small carts.
The coffins have tools and material for starting out. As do the BSBs and FSBs. Feel free to use what you need, just replace it later as your able so the next person in need has access to the same materials that you did. (If you decide to quit please return any tools that you used.) Healing cover mats and cotton to use for bandages are kept in this area as well. Small carts can be used for material gathering till your large cart is finished. Just return them to the OWS when done. Bsbs are sorted by Quality or station. Stations outside of buildings are open for all villagers. Forges, ovens and containers inside buildings have permission on pick-up controlled by writ.
  • Building and tree cutting.
Please use wood scraps to improve your wood cutting on. Making kindling will improve your woodcutting and spares the trees.
Tree cutting should be done, west of the Cathedral between the Guest horse Pens. There is a gate house called  Academy Arboreal Refuge -S, trees for cutting are in that secure area. When starting out for every 2 sprouts you pick you can cut down one tree.
Don't cut trees close to other players' houses or enclosures - those may have been planted there for a reason.
Generally it's a good idea to cut trees in forests at a distance from settlements. You can examine the ground also to be sure you are not in some ones perimeter.
  • Do not build a house/fence or anything in the perimeter of or close to the Wurm Academy, without checking with Yaragar or Serraphine first. Please do not start to build a house till you are sure that you will be playing.  The area is littered with 1/2 finished house or house that are decaying away. We recommend at least 1 week and 12 in carpentry. When you are ready to build, ask in Alliance chat if we have area we would recommend for a new house. If you decide to quit after a house is started/completed, either destroy it using the writ or trade the writ to another citizen.
  • Please do not make things that can not be picked up on deed! Examples are, Fountains, Archery Targets, Large chests, Coffins, Epic Portals, Beds, Weapon racks, Statues, etc.
  • Please do not add locks to anything on deed, Large Chests, BSBs, FSBs, Fence Gates.
  • If you would like a student house. You will be asked to provide(make) 120 bricks and 120 mortar. This lets us make new student housing and other Academy buildings as needed. (You will be removed from house if you are absent for 14 days unless a vacation notice is posted.)
  • If you need any help or have any questions, Ask in allaince chat. We will gladly answer any questions you might have if we can.
  • Who is who in the Acadamy and Alliance.
Teachers and Scholars: Serraphine/Serrawrit, Yaragar, KGB, Vynxx, Explora, Clint, Sweets, Flatuist/Johnho, Kenton/Casimiro, Rayneth, Tamaya, Myself. Not all teachers are still citizens of The Acadamy but they are still in the Alliance.
  • When you die, please pick "Spawn at Academy Token". You might have to chose it from the drop down menu. If you spawn somewhere else you might be stuck in someones yard. If you do get stuck in someones yard look for houses that have a ladder up. In Serraphine horse pens there is a escape route on the roof of a small house called, "S - Hale Ohana - Farm Pens".

New Student Guide - Tips & Rules
Tips and Things I/you wished you knew when you first started Wurm.

Keybinds! I can not stress enough how important these are!
  • Queuing:
Activate a small anvil, have 3 lumps or iron in your inventory.
Right mouse on the top of the iron stack, chose create, tools, small nails.
You will now try to create 3 small nails.
  • Combining.
Click the plus on the items you want to combine (example hot lumps).
Activat any of the items except the 1st in the stack.
Right mouse on the top of the stack, click combine.
Or activate 1 item, use Shift and mouse click to highlight how many you want to combine.
Right mouse on one of the items that are highlighted chose combine.
  • Items like seeds, sprouts or pegs can be put in a container, the countainer put in your tool belt. you can then press the number on toolbelt for the countainer and use/activate the item in your countainer.
  • F1 opens your console.
IRC will connect to IRC whre you can talk to folks on other servers in a PM like status.
Bind key (Will tell you what is bound to that key)
Bind key "say guards!" (Will call guards in local when you hit that key.
Bind key CONTINUE (Will continue if you have a item, not tool activated)
    Keybinds are your friend!
Game  Rules: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/7-game-rules/
Quote
Freedom Isles ( Excluding Chaos ) & Golden Valley Server Specific Rules
Griefing
Freedom Code of Conduct
Please read the Freedom Code of Conduct (FCC):http://forum.wurmonl...ode-of-conduct/
While the FCC isn't a set of rules on itself, frequent misbehaving (especially when aimed at a single player or a specific group of players) will result in a Game Master directive. Failing to abide by such a directive can result in penalties to your game account.

Harassment
Any harassment such as, defamation of character (insulting their race, gender, creed, nationality or sexuality), continuous use of unfavorable emotes, or failure to abide to a Game Master instruction is disallowed.

Lockpicking
It is illegal to lockpick anything that does not belong to you.

Breaking fences.
It is illegal to break any fence that does not belong to you AND is also a part of an enclosure.
Enclosure is defined as a completely enclosed secured area, composed of fences (excluding hedges and woven fences), gates or walls, and attached to or surrounding a house with at least completed bottom level walls. The bottom level walls of any such house/s being part of the enclosure must be visible from all parts of the fencing encompassing the enclosure area. Note that a deed overrides the enclosure rule.

Animals and Livestock.
It is illegal to take, tame, or kill any animals in an enclosure not of your own, or any animals secured and fully fenced on a deed that you are not part of.

Highways.
A/ It is illegal to block, terraform, alter or destroy any highways.( Application to conduct any of these activities may be sent to /support for approval by a Game Master)

B/ If you have or choose to place a deed over a highway, you are still required to follow part A, and leave the highway clear, passable and KoS free.

C/ Building a highway through a deed obligates the village concerned to abide by the highway rules and therefore it forfeits the right to KoS.

Highways are defined as being at least 2 paved tiles wide road with or without barriers, or a single paved tile road with sand barriers.
There follows one exception to this; If your deed is the terminus of a highway, you may then position locked gates on deed across that highway providing KoS griefing rules remain adhered to.

Heritage Items.
Such items as major tunnels, items or sites that are deemed important by the Game Masters to enhancing the playability for players will be named "Heritage" sites. Heritage items will be adequately sign posted so there isn't any confusion.
All such Heritage sites are under Game Master protection and any destruction, alteration or other action that results in restricting the use or access of such items will be governed under the game rules for griefing.

KoS
It's the right of any mayor to KoS anyone as they see fit, except for any deed covering a highway. In such cases the village waives any right to KoS anyone.

In order to set KoS on anyone the village must have a one tile allowance between the deed edge and any gate that will lock upon the village alarms being sounded. Anyone set on KoS must be allowed a clear avenue to remove themselves from that deed. Not allowing this will be considered as griefing and is illegal.

Game Masters may issue an instruction and possibly a warning to the player or players in any case referred to as griefing. Failure to abide by this instruction or warning could result in the player or players involved being banned. If you have a problem with the instruction, you should do as you are advised and then post any complaint to the Head Game Master.

Merchants :
If a merchant becomes blocked, the merchant owner must be given proper access for the removal of the merchant and it's stock.

Punishment for griefing:
Penalties could be a warning, or a 3-7 day ban, or could result in the player account put before the Game Masters for possible permanent account ban. This can alter depending on the severity of the case

Abandoned Vessels.

Abandoned vessels
Abandoned vessels are those that have been left in such places that constitute a problem to playability such as on deeds. An abandoned vessel can be brought to the notice of a GM and if found appropriate the vessel will be moved sufficiently away from the immediate area of concern.

"Unaccompanied minors"
We are a community of mainly adults. While we don't encourage vulgarity and cussing, It does happen. A lot off  us also and have children in real life and would not feel comfortably with our young children playing this game with out parental supervision. We have decided that 15 is the minimal age of "Unaccompanied minor" that the Academy will take on. We are sorry if this prevents some people from playing with us.

Thanks Serra - this was long overdue :)

Just a small correction: The mine is North East of the token, not North West. (I already corrected that in the cafeteria thread.)

I'll check the rest later and see if I can think of any additions. Good job!!

This is great, thanks Serra  :D

Maybe add a note about choosing to spawn at Academy token when you die ? Or how to use the escape route if you don't  ;)
